Hangover anyone?

I think terrible 2's started long before Kaiyenna turned 2, but recently after she turned 2 she has figured out how to get into more trouble. She has also "tried" to get Keydran in trouble. As soon as Kaiyenna figured out how to open cupboard doors and drawers, shortly after turning 1, I have baby proofed them, except for 1, which is her own special drawer. Well, even though they have lock things on them, her arms are still little enough to fit thorough the small opening and pull stuff out. Her favorite drawer to pull stuff out of is the wooden spoon/spatula/whisk drawer. I didn't mind so much cause it's not a knife, but as soon as she started running around with it in her mouth I was afraid she'd fall and get it jammed down her throat. So now, both Joey and I get after her for getting into the wooden spoons. The other day she comes running into the Front room to Joey and starts saying; "Keygoo, spoon. Keygoo, spoon" with a little scowl on her face. So Joey goes into the kitchen and Keydran is sitting in the middle of the floor holding a wooden spoon. Clearly he's too short to even reach the drawer let alone get a spoon out of it. Joey then put that spoon in to the sink and went back into the front room. Obviously Kaiyenna's plan to get Keydran in trouble failed.... so she tried again, grabbing yet another spoon and doing the same thing as before.... silly girl! A side from that, she has also learned how to open doors. Our first incident with that was the pantry door... She snuck in there and grabbed a can of Hot Chocolate, and started eating it. The first place everything goes... her mouth.
Now knowing she can open doors, putting her to bed became another issue. So we switched our bedroom door knob that has a lock and put it on hers with the lock out, so we could lock her in at night... a trick learned from a friend! Our door knobs are oval shaped, so the door knob covers won't work, in case you are wondering. Anyways... Last night I was cleaning up the Kitchen while Joey cooked dinner. The kids were in the front room playing with toys, when all of a sudden it got quiet. I then realized that I forgot to put the gate up. Keydran can go up the stairs fine, but going down... he tries to go down head first. So I was panicking, totally oblivious to the fact that our bedroom door no longer locks. So I race up stairs and as I reach the top of the stairs I could smell a familiar but strong oder. I immediately knew what it was, Johnson & Johnson's clean & clear facial astringent. Which has salicylic acid and alcohol and some other stuff in it. So I rushed to Kaiyenna and I could smell it on her breath. She said it was a "yummy drink". Keydran was just crawling around, no sign of drinkage for him. phew. After putting him in a safe place... away from the stairs. I immediately grabbed Kaiyenna and Joey called poison control. We told poison control that we had no idea how much she consumed. The bottle was a little more than half full, but It had been used so I know she didn't drink that much. Well the poison control told us that even 1 oz. could be very toxic and the alcohol that's in it could make her a little drunk. It was very possible that Kaiyenna could have consumed that much. Because we were 40 minutes away from the hospital, poison control advised us to head out and get Kaiyenna to the ER, So Kaiyenna and I headed out. After waiting 30 minutes in the waiting room, we were finally taken back. Dr. came in and said that she looks fine, there's been no vomiting. He called the poison control to confirm the call and to see if he could take her blood levels to see how much she actually consumed. But the poison control told him that it wasn't necessary. Dr. also said that salicylic acid is the same ingredient that's in aspirin but that it's very diluted and that she would have had to consumed a lot for it to be toxic. But that they can monitor her for 30 minutes just in case. Or... we can go home, and if she throws up to come back... well, I decided to stay to avoid having to pay 2 $100.00 co-pays. While waiting I could clearly see that Kaiyenna was a little drunk. 10:00 at night, she's usually ornery, but last night she was bouncing off the walls, and hitting me.... not normal. Not even during the day is she that wild, especially the hitting part. They gave her some crackers, pudding, and apple juice while we were waiting. That helped her calm down, and then she became ornery. But soon after the orneriness kicked in they came to tell us we could go home. $100.00 later we find out that Kaiyenna in fine, poison control didn't do the research very well, Kaiyenna got some crackers, juice and pudding, and now me and Kaiyenna have matching bracelets.
And this morning, I think Kaiyenna might have a slight hangover. She is extremely ornery.

As sad and scary as that is (I had a run in with Poison Control when Leah thought the cleaner I was using was her water spray bottle and started guzzling - eek) it's also... dare I say... pretty darn funny.

Kaiyenna just seems like such a funny little mischevious girl.

Oh and please don't think I'm mean because I think it's funny that your daughter consumed salicylic acid. I'm a nice person, really...

Glad to hear she is fine. I figured she would be but it is always better to be safe than sorry. Love ya.

good grief. way to scary! it is kind of funny that she got a little drunk, after the initial schock of course. and Having kids able to open doors is just an all around bad thing, London got into the Vaseline and put it all over his hair and body! Gross.

Oh my heck! Someone needs to invent a drama umbrella and shield you guys for a while...I think you've had enough. I am glad Kaiyenna is OK...I agree, better safe than sorry, but co-pays can be SO frustrating! Love ya!

You see, this is where it comes in handy to have friends with children the same age. Cohen got slightly drunk off of mouth wash. I think the Poison Control lady was holding back a chuckle or two. I know Brett and I had a few of our own when he slurred his words and couldn't walk straight.

Mostly though, they survive. It's a miracle, but they survive.

Miss you!
